Council of Management - TIDE

N V Krishna Chairman

Mr. N V Krishna has an abiding interest in the application of science and technology to the real world problems of energy, employment and other developmental needs of society, an interest he developed while working at the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).

NVK graduated from IIT Madras (1974) and IIM Calcutta (1976) and worked with Prof A K N Reddy as a system’s analyst at the recently formed KSCST during 1976 / 81. He was associated with several projects during this period including the development of a Science and Technology plan for Karnataka, improvements to hand pumps for drinking water and automation of state department operations.

His later work experience has been in industrial units, mainly related to software and networking businesses. He worked for IDL Chemicals Ltd. during 1981 /86 and headed the systems department at Hyderabad. He then joined Sonata software in its formative years, where he was working during 1986 / 94, as Vice President (US operations) and head of Software Quality. He joined Microsense as a Director in 1995 and currently heads the company’s software export operations and is also part of the Wireless City project undertaken by the Company to create ubiquitous connected communities.


AN Jayachandra

AN Jayachandra has almost 32 years of administrative experience in various Government and Non-Government organizations such as Karnataka Agro Industries Corporation, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology and the India Foundation for the Arts.
He holds a three Post-graduate Diplomas in Management and a Degree in Commerce from the University of Mysore.

AN Jayachandra is a Sr Administrative Officer at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, a premier and globally recognized research institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.

His primary areas of interest are to provide technologies to villages, building social network organizations and institutional management.


Madan Rao

Madan Rao is a faculty member at Raman Research Institute. He holds an Adjunct Faculty position at the National Centre for Biological Sciences and also a Visiting Scientist in the Center for Condensed Matter Theory at the Indian Institute of Science. Having trained as a theoretical condensed matter physicist he is now working at the frontiers of physics and biology. In addition to furthering the cause of interdisciplinary research and collaboration Madan Rao is keenly interested in the popularisation of scientific research as well as in exploring the linkages between the agendas of science and larger developmental issues. He has been associated with various social movements dedicated to these concerns.

Madan an alumni of IIT Bombay, IISc Bangalore was the recipient of the Bhatnagar Award in 2004


Shailaja R

A Ph.D from the M S University of Baroda, works with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), a National Centre of Excellence, supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. As the Regional Director of the southern regional office, she coordinates programmes in the field of Environment Education and Education for Sustainable Development in the Southern States. After her Ph.D in plant biochemistry, she spent a year in Central Plantation Crops Research Institute and year in Karnataka University, Dharwad working on physiological aspects of plants using in vitro techniques. However, her interest shifted from laboratory studies to development related field studies when she joined the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. There she had the good fortune of meeting scholars and great teachers like Prof. Amulya Kumar N. Reddy and Prof. K. S. Jagadish, who supported and encouraged her interests. While working with the rural community, especially women, she realized the importance of education to achieve the goals of sustainable development. She then moved to CEE to pursue her interests.

She now is working towards integrating the principles and the processes of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in development interventions. Her special interest lies in the area of disaster management.


Svati Bhogle Secretary

Svati Bhogle holds a masters degree in chemical engineering from IIT Bombay. She worked for the Hindustan Lever Research Centre for about a year after which her interest shifted to research in technology for development an area that she has been working in for over two decades. When working for the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, she was initially involved in research in the development of fuel efficient biomass based stoves and dryers for a variety of applications. She has been associated with TIDE for about 10 years now as its Secretary and Chief Executive and has worked on several projects involving technology development, adaptation and dissemination. She has also contributed to several projects that have explored entrepreneurship models for sustainable technology dissemination. In the past few years, she has been associated with projects involving women and livelihoods. She was also the Editor of Energy for Sustainable Development the journal of the International Energy Initiative till March 2007.

She was nominated for the Social entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006 jointly with the Founder Chairman Dr. S Rajagopalan.
