Rainwater Harvesting at Bangalore Planetarium

TIDE has carried out rain water harvesting at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium (BASE, Bangalore Association for Science Education). The project was done in 2009 in partnership with Adobe Systems India and Charity Aid Foundation (CAF)

The implementations include Roof top harvesting, Surface Runoff harvesting and ground water recharge. The recharge structures include a pond, wells, trenches and pits. Prominent display boards are placed at central locations, for visitors to learn about the various systems and techniques installed at the premises.

Impact :

  • As per our records, the installed Rain water harvesting systems at the BASE campus has resulted in savings of up to 40% of water used in the campus! It is also creating awareness to visitors to the planetarium on rain water harvesting.
