Low Carbon Technology Adoption and Dissemintion through community led initiatives
Low Carbon Technology Adoption and Dissemintion through community led initiatives
In partnership with UNDP-GEF-SGP and CEE India, TIDE completed a two year project in November 2015 and successfully accomplished the goal: To initiate, establish and integrate efforts at the community level into the climate change mitigation process through the adoption of low carbon products.
The project focused on facilitating the adoption of low carbon technologies at the last mile by upgrading the technical and enterprise skills of communities.
Outcome of the Project
75 women have been nurtured into Micro entrepreneurs through the project and are directly involved in marketing solar products and in cook stove construction in Karnataka & Tamil Nadu.
During this project period, about 100 fuel-efficient cook stoves and 500 solar products have been sold by these women thus benefiting about 11,000 people through access to low carbon products.
Demonstrated potential income generation of about Rs 2000 – 3000 per woman per month on a flexible/part-time basis with scope to go as high as Rs 5000 depending on products.
The trained women are creating awareness on low carbon technologies/ products in their communities; they share their own experience and motivate the community to switch to a low carbon lifestyle. They have reached more than 11000 people in about a year, creating awareness on low carbon products.
Mitigation of 2,100 MTs of CO2 through the adoption of low carbon products and technologies.
IMPACT
A novel methodology of direct and willing grass-root participation in low carbon product supply chain has been successfully demonstrated through the project
Income-generating opportunity for the grass root in the low carbon supply chain has been demonstrated and facilitated.
Achieved technical and enterprising skill building of rural women resulting in livelihood generation and income augmentation of community members in low carbon supply chain
Demonstrated mitigation of CO2 through the adoption of low carbon products and technologies.
As a continuation of the project, a group of women have been trained further in the assembly and repairs of solar products. Also, five of the women have opened an ECO STORE to market low carbon products.
